Triage Tool (Beta)

The Sullivan Group (TSG) & Health Resources Unlimited (HRU) joined forces to create the Triage Tool, which is targeted for general release in 2011. The Triage Tool is designed to become the cornerstone of your department’s triage competency program by facilitating ongoing retrospective chart reviews. Your staff will receive immediate feedback on ESI and CTAS guidelines as well as critical thinking tips to enhance decision making. The Triage Tool is an essential component of an effective and efficient triage process that minimizes risk and improves patient outcomes.

Development Update

TSG and HRU demonstrated the Triage Tool prototype at the ENA Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL on Feb. 19 & 20, 2010. The attendees had an opportunity to see the tool, and were very enthusiastic about its functionality. They raved about the numerous critical thinking tips that were displayed as well as the ESI & CTAS guidelines linked to triage considerations. The prototype currently has 3 high-risk chief complaint templates available: Abdominal Pain; Chest Pain; and Child with Fever. We will be adding Pediatric Abdominal Pain, Headache, Head Injury and several other high-risk chief complaints in 2010.

HCA will be beta testing the Triage Tool prototype in a number of facilities beginning April 1, 2010.  We will also be beta testing the Tool in several independent facilities.  The user groups will provide us with valuable feedback so we can continue to build and improve the Tool.  The Triage Tool is tentatively scheduled to roll out in 2011 as a web-based product.
