In an effort to improve recognition and outcomes in emergency setting and, ultimately, save lives of those impacted with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (VEDS), The VEDS Movement, a non-profit organization, has developed this course designed specifically for Emergency Room nurses, nurse practitioners, and physicians. The course employs case presentations to increase awareness of VEDS, improve diagnostic accuracy, and ensure the competent emergency medical management of individuals with VEDS.

After completing this course, learners should be able to:

* identify the acute, life-threatening conditions that individuals with VEDS are predisposed to and present with to the emergency department

* use the diagnostic criteria for VEDS to determine when to suspect VEDS in undiagnosed patients who present with an acute vascular, gastrointestinal, pulmonary, or uterine emergency

* formulate appropriate differential diagnoses for common complaints presenting to the emergency department for patients with known or suspected VEDS

* select the most appropriate diagnostic tests and procedures that are at lowest risk for potential complications in individuals with VEDS

* and collaborate with the patient's VEDS care team to ensure competent emergency medical management.
