Picis and The Sullivan Group Extend Risk Management Offering in the ED

Industry-leading risk management content coupled with ED PulseCheck clinical decision support tools helps clinicians promote patient safety and quality care

WAKEFIELD, Mass. — As the first company to incorporate risk management tools into emergency department information systems (EDIS), Picis today is continuing its commitment to these offerings through an extension of its ongoing relationship with The Sullivan Group, the industry’s leading provider of risk management and performance improvement solutions for the emergency department (ED). The two companies have entered into a multi-year extension of their agreement to integrate The Sullivan Group’s risk management content with Picis ED PulseCheck®, providing ED clinicians with information at the point of care to help the clinician improve decision-making and patient safety, while mitigating risk of litigation.

With emergency departments consolidating and economic and regulatory conditions driving more ED care, ED physicians increasingly rely on clinical decision support tools to provide patients with the best possible care in these pressure-filled and hectic environments. The delivery of The Sullivan Group’s risk management tools through ED PulseCheck enables nurses and physicians to access up-to-date, evidence-based medical information and best practices at their fingertips, eliminating searching through textbooks and Web sites for the latest clinical data. As a result, physicians in the ED can make quicker, smarter decisions that, in turn, help them provide better care.

“With this agreement, we are solidifying our relationship with a leader in information systems for the ED — where medical decision support plays an increasingly important role,” said Daniel Sullivan, M.D., J.D., F.A.C.E.P., President and CEO of The Sullivan Group. “Our risk management solution, together with ED PulseCheck, presents physicians with peer-reviewed and proven options to consider for any number of conditions and empowers them to make the best decisions for their patients.”

The Sullivan Group’s content is published specifically for the ED and tailored to ED care situations. Currently, approximately 75 percent of Picis customers already rely on the tool within ED PulseCheck — including Virtua in N.J., The George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC and The Mount Sinai Hospital in N.Y. Under the new agreement, Picis will not only continue to offer The Sullivan Group’s content as part of its ED PulseCheck solution, but will also work with The Sullivan Group to develop the next generation of integrated risk management solutions.

“Physicians today are challenged more than ever to keep up with the latest research on treatments, and hospitals are under increasing pressure to meet critical quality of care standards and benchmarks,” said Todd Cozzens, CEO, Picis. “Our window into the clinical challenges hospitals and health systems are facing today in the ED will help drive the development of new solutions incorporating The Sullivan Group’s content, enabling us to continue to provide customers with the most recent and thorough medical information at the point of care.”
